Begin with the individual slab
A stone name or small sample helps narrow the search, but it does not show exactly what will arrive in your kitchen. Natural slabs can differ in colour, pattern and visible features. View the actual slab or a clear photograph of it, and confirm which piece is being selected. Look at it with your cabinet finish and flooring rather than relying on the catalogue image alone.
Check the material as well as the name
Similar design names appear across natural stone and manufactured surfaces. Taj Mahal natural quartzite and a Taj Mahal porcelain design are different materials. Include the supplier, product name and stone family in your enquiry. The fabrication detail and care guidance should follow the exact material selected.
Plan where the pattern will sit
Mark the sink, cooktop, island seating and waterfall ends on the cabinet drawing. A strong vein may disappear inside a cutout or change direction at a join. Review the proposed slab layout before cutting so the visible sections and panel relationships are understood. Ask how joins and any matching panels will be arranged; an online image does not guarantee continuity.
Inspect the finish and visible features
Discuss the surface finish, natural variation and any visible fissures or repairs with the supplier and fabricator. Ask how they affect your intended application and edge detail. Select the slab on its own characteristics rather than expecting a second piece to be identical. Confirm care instructions for the chosen stone and finish.
Connect slab selection to installation
Slab dimensions are only part of the plan. The finished pieces must be supported by the cabinetry and carried safely into the room.
