Understand what you are keeping
Start with photographs of the full kitchen, the existing benchtop and the cupboards beneath it. Show corners, splashbacks, sink areas and any damaged cabinetry. Keeping the cabinet layout does not mean every original detail can carry straight across to a new surface. We’ll discuss the existing construction and the intended replacement before treating the project as a simple like-for-like change.
Review removal as its own part of the scope
Clarify who is removing the existing surface and whether disposal is included. Tell us what the old benchtop is made from, how it meets the splashback and whether you want to keep adjoining finishes. Removal can expose conditions that photographs do not show. Agree how any unexpected cabinet or wall work will be handled, rather than assuming it is part of the stone installation.
Coordinate the plumbing and appliances
A benchtop replacement often involves the sink, taps and cooktop even when the cabinet positions stay the same. Confirm whether those items will be reused or replaced and provide their specifications. Discuss disconnection and reconnection responsibilities with the appropriate trades. The installation plan should make clear when each trade is needed and who is arranging them so the kitchen can be put back into use.
Check levels, support and adjoining finishes
The proposed surface needs to work with the existing cabinet support, room geometry and surrounding finishes. Changes in visible thickness can affect the splashback relationship and how the edge sits against cabinet fronts. Share photos of the underside and current edge profile. Support and overhang arrangements should be assessed for the selected product and construction instead of copied automatically from the old benchtop.
Build a quote around the complete replacement
Include the new material, approximate dimensions, desired edge, sink and appliance information, plus removal and access details in your enquiry. A replacement quote needs to distinguish the stone work from any cabinet, wall, plumbing or electrical tasks. Tell us your preferred timing, but allow the schedule to be confirmed after the material, measurements and site requirements have been reviewed together.
